Review: Optimism over Despair: On Capitalism, Empire, and Social Change

Optimism over Despair: On Capitalism, Empire, and Social Change Optimism over Despair: On Capitalism, Empire, and Social Change by Noam Chomsky
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The best thing about Chomskyan optimism is that it is an act (as opposed to a state of mind or a passive attitude) based on clear understanding of the of the environment, identification of situations that requires change, weighing in on the options available to change the said situation and take steps in that direction. Chomsky also points out that human survival in the face of tremendous adversity and despair through history happened because, we did something about it. If it has happened in the past, one can reasonably hope for the same humanity to do the same again.
